Vietnam Visa Requirement Checker

Do you need a Vietnam visa?

Select your nationality to see whether visa-free entry may apply and whether eVisa support is available for your trip.

This checker is for ordinary passport travel guidance. Special passports, diplomatic/official travel, Phu Quoc-only stays, and special categories may have different rules.

Checklist of common Vietnam visa requirement documents

Select your nationality to check Vietnam visa guidance.

Results are based on ordinary-passport travel guidance and eVisa availability references reviewed in May 2026.

Visa-free result

If your nationality is listed for visa-free entry, the checker shows the maximum ordinary-passport stay duration and when eVisa may still be useful.

Visa normally required

If your nationality is not listed for visa-free entry, the checker recommends applying before departure and confirms eVisa support availability.

eVisa support available

Vietnam eVisa support is available for all countries and territories, subject to entry conditions and official approval.

Important notes before using the result

  • Visa-free stay length depends on nationality and entry conditions.
  • If your trip exceeds the visa-free period, an eVisa may still be needed.
  • If you need multiple entries, longer stay, urgent support, or airport services, Vietnam GoEasy can help organize the request.
  • Final decisions are made by official authorities at the time of entry and processing.

Nationality Requirements

How to read Vietnam visa requirements by nationality

The checker above gives a fast first answer, but a complete visa decision should always consider nationality, passport type, travel purpose, stay length, entry route, number of entries, and whether a traveler is using ordinary-passport rules or a special category.

Current policy baseline used for this guide

Vietnam’s official tourism guidance states that eVisa is available for citizens of all countries and territories with up to 90 days and single or multiple entry options. Official tourism announcements also list 45-day visa exemption policies for several European and Northeast Asian countries during 2025–2028. Because immigration rules can change, this page should be reviewed before launch and after any official policy update.

Passport validity note for eVisa planning

For many visa and arrival situations, travelers should prepare a passport with enough remaining validity and blank pages before travel. For standard 30-day Vietnam eVisa support cases, Vietnam GoEasy can still review applications where the passport has at least 2 months of validity from the intended entry date, provided the passport details are clear and the route is otherwise suitable.

If the traveler is visa-exempt, using a special passport, staying longer, changing passport, entering through a special route, or using a non-standard visa path, our team should review the case before the traveler relies on a general rule.

Need visa/eVisaTypical US/Canada path

Ordinary passport travelers from the United States and Canada generally review eVisa first for tourism and short business trips.

Visa-freeLimited stay only

Some nationalities can enter visa-free for a limited time, but stay limits, passport type, purpose, and entry conditions still matter.

Special caseDo not rely on quick checker

Work, study, long stay, family, diplomatic, official, emergency, refugee, or temporary passport cases need deeper review.

Requirement checklist before choosing a visa path

QuestionWhy it mattersVietnam GoEasy review focus
What nationality is on the passport?Nationality affects visa-free stay and whether a visa is normally needed.Match the exact passport nationality, not residence country.
What passport type is used?Ordinary and special passports may have different treatment.Flag diplomatic, official, emergency, refugee, laissez-passer, or temporary documents.
How long is the stay?Visa-free categories are limited; eVisa validity must cover the trip.Check entry date, exit date, and buffer for changes.
Single or multiple entry?Regional side trips can require multiple-entry planning.Ask whether the traveler will leave Vietnam and return.
Which entry/exit ports?eVisa routes depend on accepted ports; VOA is airport-based.Check airport, land border, cruise/seaport, and exit plan.
How close is the flight?Urgent timing reduces correction time.Decide whether urgent review is realistic before accepting the case.
US and Canadian ordinary passport travelers

For Vietnam GoEasy’s core audience, the safest default guidance is not “you may be exempt,” but “let’s check eVisa requirements and your trip details.” Most ordinary US and Canadian travelers should review eVisa, date range, entry type, route, passport validity, and document quality before departure.

When the checker is enough

  • The traveler has an ordinary passport.
  • The trip is a simple tourism or short business visit.
  • The stay length and entry route are clear.
  • There is no previous application error or pending case.
  • The travel date is not too close.

When support should ask more questions

A quick nationality result can be misleading when the case has extra details. These situations should be routed to human review before the traveler pays or books around an uncertain plan.

Case typeWhy it is sensitiveRecommended action
Already submitted eVisa with a mistakeName, passport number, date, photo, or route errors can affect use of the visa.Review the existing application and timing before advising next steps.
Pending visa and flight soonThere may not be enough time for correction or fresh application.Use urgent case review wording; do not guarantee boarding.
Multiple travelers / family groupOne wrong passport/photo can delay the whole group.Check every applicant separately.
Land border or cruiseNot every route is appropriate for every visa path.Verify entry and exit ports before submission.
Business, work, study, family, long stayMay require more than a standard tourist eVisa discussion.Explain limits and suggest official/specialist confirmation where needed.

Country examples for ordinary passport planning

Usually eVisa reviewUnited States / Canada

Usually review eVisa for ordinary short visits unless another special category applies.

Visa-free groupsEurope / Northeast Asia examples

Some countries such as Germany, France, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and others may have 45-day visa-free entry subject to conditions.

ASEAN examples30 / 21 / 14 days

Several nearby countries may have shorter visa-free limits; those limits can be too short for longer or flexible trips.

Requirements FAQ

Can residence country replace nationality?

No. Visa requirement checks should use the passport nationality, not where the traveler lives.

Does eVisa availability mean approval is guaranteed?

No. eVisa availability means a traveler can apply; final approval is decided by the competent authority.

Does visa-free entry always mean no documents are needed?

No. Travelers may still need passport validity, onward plan, accommodation details, and proof of eligibility if asked.

Should US/Canada travelers use VOA instead of eVisa?

Usually eVisa is reviewed first. VOA is a special airport-based path and should not be treated as the default unless the case is suitable.

Business & Working support details

Company information may matter for Business and Working requests.

For Working visa purpose, the inviting or sponsoring company in Vietnam is required: company name, phone number, and address. For Business visa purpose, the same information is optional at the online form stage, but adding it can help the support team review the request more clearly.

Special-handling nationality note

Group 3 special-handling nationalities need extra eVisa information before review can move forward.

If your nationality is in Group 3 special-handling, the order form may ask for extra details such as religion, home-country phone number, emergency contact, current occupation/company details, Vietnam stay address and phone, recent Vietnam travel, relatives in Vietnam, and quick Yes/No answers about other passport history or Vietnamese law/regulation history. Request to Book/manual quote nationalities do not use this full special-handling section. They complete the basic form only, then wait for Vietnam GoEasy manual review before any confirmed quote or payment. If a Vietnam phone or stay address is requested and the customer does not yet have a local number/address, a roaming mobile or WhatsApp number and the booked/expected hotel address may be used and updated later if needed.
